Experience
The primary reason I work as a tutor is to help students simplify, organize and understand academic subjects and areas within which they are struggling. I specialize in teaching and helping students (from a primary to a collegiate level) with the study of the English, Russian and French languages, as well as with essay writing, reading skills and comprehension, test preparation, film analysis, critical thinking, research skills, and creative writing. I have several years of tutoring experience – working all throughout high school, as well as in university in the subjects listed above. On my SAT’s I received a 760 in Reading, as well as 710 in Writing. On my SAT Subject tests I received an 800 in French with Listening, as well as a 700 in Literature. During my initial schooling I was enrolled in the Gifted French Immersion program – a highly competitive and demanding program spanning all twelve years of primary through secondary education, and a program from which I graduated in 2012 with honors. I also graduated from a supplementary Saturday school Russian language and culture program in 2012 – a program that spanned all twelve years of my other formal education. Post high school graduation, I was accepted at the University of Southern California in 2012, where I proceeded to take classes focusing on film, creative writing, critical thinking, analysis, film and theatre production, as well as languages, world culture, and playwriting. I worked on the school’s paper ‘The Daily Trojan’ as an on-staff journalist for three semesters before leaving to focus on schoolwork. On top of private tutoring, I am currently working as a consultant and translator for a marketing company based out of Los Angeles, as well as a freelance wilderness, surfing and outdoor education writer for several outdoor magazines and blogs. I work well with students of all ages and learning styles – having adapted from tutoring Gifted subjects which require a non linear thought pattern, to a very straight forward and analytical thinking approach required in introductory college essays and theses. I also strive to encourage and foster independent learning, academic curiosity, critical thinking and creativity.

I’m also a voracious reader of both fiction and non-fiction, with a special love for classical literature and world history. I love travelling and experiencing new cultures, and have been fortunate enough to travel the world from a young age. I’m also currently working on my first novel and love to write poetry on the side.
